AEW Dynamite Preview - September 24, 2025: Statlander’s First Title Defense, Tony Khan’s Big Reveal & A Possible Freshly Squeezed Return

AEW Dynamite returns tonight from the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, and the fallout from All Out is already shaking the foundation of the company. A new women’s world champion steps into her first defense, Tony Khan is teasing another “important” announcement, and faction warfare could bring back one of AEW’s most beloved stars.

Kris Statlander’s Championship Era Begins

After years of clawing her way to the top, Kris Statlander finally captured the AEW Women’s World Championship at All Out, defeating “Timeless” Toni Storm in a four-way clash. It was a moment long in the making for Statlander, who now stands as the first woman to hold both the TBS Title and the Women’s World Title in AEW history.

But celebration time is short in this division. Statlander will defend her title tonight against Mina Shirakawa, Storm’s partner inside and outside the ring. Shirakawa is dangerous, hungry, and motivated to make sure the belt returns to Storm’s circle of influence. For Statlander, the challenge is twofold: prove she’s not just a transitional champion and silence the whispers about her association with the Death Riders.

A looming one-on-one showdown with Toni Storm still hangs in the distance, but tonight Statlander must first survive Mina.

Tony Khan’s Announcement — Women’s Tag Titles Incoming?

AEW CEO Tony Khan has teased another major announcement for Dynamite. While details remain under wraps, speculation is running wild that tonight could mark the official launch of the long-rumored AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship.

The belts themselves have reportedly been ready for months, with Khan previously noting that injuries delayed the division’s rollout. If the announcement does confirm a women’s tag tournament, it would be AEW’s first since the 2020 Deadly Draw and could create fresh opportunities in a roster that is suddenly more competitive than ever.

The Conglomeration vs. The Don Callis Family

Faction warfare is heating up. Fresh off a big All Out victory over MJF, Mark Briscoe challenged the Don Callis Family to trios action tonight. He’ll team with Hologram and a mystery partner heavily teased to be none other than Orange Cassidy, who hasn’t wrestled since March.

Cassidy’s return would be a seismic boost for AEW’s babyface ranks, especially while stars like Will Ospreay, Swerve Strickland, and Kenny Omega remain sidelined.

On the other side, the Callis Family will counter with AEW Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada, Konosuke Takeshita, and Hechicero. Despite holding both the Unified and TNT Titles, the Family stumbled at All Out, failing to capture additional gold. Even worse, Okada and Takeshita’s simmering tensions have only grown since their three-way collision at the pay-per-view.

Can the Family hold it together long enough to stop The Conglomeration—or will a freshly squeezed return tilt the balance?

Announced Card:

  • AEW Women’s World Championship: Kris Statlander (c) vs. Mina Shirakawa
  • Trios Match: The Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe, Hologram & Mystery Partner) vs. Don Callis Family (Kazuchika Okada, Konosuke Takeshita & Hechicero)
  • Tony Khan Announcement

Wrestling.news | Backstage Take

Tonight feels like one of those pivot point episodes of Dynamite. Kris Statlander is in a sink-or-swim moment as champion—her performance tonight will dictate how the locker room and the fans perceive her reign. Meanwhile, if Tony Khan officially introduces women’s tag titles, AEW will be doubling down on strengthening its women’s division in a way WWE hasn’t touched in years.

And then there’s Orange Cassidy. His return could be the shot of adrenaline AEW desperately needs right now, especially with so many top stars recovering from injuries. If he does show up, expect one of the loudest reactions of the night in Pittsburgh.
