AEW Star Injured in Bizarre Accident — Now Battling Two Serious Setbacks

AEW Trios Champion Samoa Joe is no stranger to pain, but his latest setback is as frustrating as it is unusual.
While promoting the upcoming season of his hit Peacock series Twisted Metal, Joe revealed that he’s nursing a fractured ankle suffered in the most unexpected way possible. This comes on top of a legitimate concussion he reportedly sustained during the aftermath of AEW’s All In: Texas pay-per-view.
“Crazy Stunts? No Problem. Parking Lot? Disaster.”
In an interview with PWInsider, Joe detailed the strange circumstances: after a full day of dangerous driving scenes, the injury came during something as mundane as parking.
"It was just parking, and I had to hop out the back on some really rocky, busted-up asphalt. I turned my ankle and spent the rest of the season taping it up and limping through it," Joe explained.
The “Samoan Submission Machine” didn’t miss a beat, continuing to film Sweet Tooth scenes despite the injury — a testament to his trademark toughness.
From Hollywood to the Hospital
The ankle fracture alone would sideline most athletes, but Joe’s troubles didn’t end there. At All In: Texas on July 12th, Joe and his team The Opps successfully defended their AEW Trios Titles — only to be ambushed post-match by the Death Riders. The brutal beatdown ended with Joe being stretchered out, and reports now confirm that the angle led to a legit concussion.
Now, Joe is rehabbing both injuries, but he’s already promising a swift return.
"Once I’m through the various medical protocols, I’ll be back to business," he declared, hinting that business will involve payback against the Death Riders.

Samoa Joe’s career has been defined by his ability to blend realism with storytelling, and this latest chapter is no exception. The irony of surviving insane stunt work only to be sidelined by a bad landing on rocky asphalt sounds almost scripted — but it’s very real. AEW’s Trios division loses a huge presence while Joe heals, but his eventual comeback could be explosive. Don’t be surprised if AEW milks his revenge angle for maximum drama — it’s a perfect setup for a big-money return.
