Looking ahead, tensions may boil over again on August 24, when AEW and NJPW co-host Forbidden Door in the UK, just hours before WWE airs its NXT Heatwave special stateside. While WWE may dodge direct competition by slotting Heatwave later in the day, Ricochet says the intention is clear—undercut AEW’s momentum.
“This is definitely something WWE wants to do,” Ricochet said in response to a report from WrestleVotes. “They’re trying to hijack the conversation and momentum online. It’s a strategic narrative war, and it’s weak.”
Once beloved as a high-flying babyface in WWE, Ricochet has rebranded himself in AEW as a brash heel and outspoken critic of his former employer.
