AEW Welcomes Former WWE Star Glasgow at Collision Taping

All Elite Wrestling pulled off another surprise this week, and this one hit home for UK fans in a big way. Former WWE and NXT UK star Mark Andrews made his AEW debut during the Collision tapings in Glasgow, Scotland, on August 20 at the OVO Hydro. The show will air this Saturday, August 23, just one night before the massive AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view in London.
A Pop for a Hometown Hero
The crowd in Glasgow erupted when Andrews walked out. For years, he’s been one of the most respected names on the British wrestling scene, and to see him step into an AEW ring on home soil gave the night an extra layer of excitement. Andrews faced the towering Big Bill, a matchup that was a clear clash of styles from the opening bell.
Andrews fought with the heart and speed that has defined his career, flying around the ring and refusing to be intimidated by Big Bill’s size. In the end, the power advantage proved too much, and Andrews took the loss. But the result almost didn’t matter — the reaction from the fans showed how much they appreciated seeing him back on a big stage. What nobody knows right now is whether this was a one-off appearance for the UK tour, or if Tony Khan has bigger plans for him moving forward.

A Career Full of Firsts
Andrews has never been short on accomplishments. He first broke through in TNA, where he won the second season of British Boot Camp and earned himself a contract. His high-flying style quickly made him stand out, and before long, he was holding the TNA World Tag Team Championship.
When WWE launched NXT UK, Andrews became one of the faces of the brand. Teaming with Flash Morgan Webster as part of the Subculture group, Andrews and Webster made history by becoming the first Welsh champions in WWE when they captured the NXT UK Tag Team Titles. His release in 2022 closed that chapter, but it didn’t stop him from continuing to represent the UK wrestling scene with the same passion that got him noticed in the first place.
Wrestling.news | Backstage Take
Mark Andrews showing up in AEW is exactly the kind of moment fans love. It’s unexpected, it feels special, and it sparks that “what if?” conversation that wrestling thrives on. Even if this ends up being a one-time appearance, AEW gave fans in Glasgow something memorable and gave Andrews another chance to showcase his skills on a big stage. But if AEW is smart, they’ll find a spot for him. He fits the company’s fast-paced, high-energy style like a glove, and fans have been waiting for someone like Andrews to bring that Subculture energy to a wider audience again.
