AEW star Adam Copeland is trading the squared circle for the silver screen. According to Variety, the former World Champion has officially been cast in the upcoming action sequel The Beekeeper 2, starring Hollywood powerhouse Jason Statham.

From AEW Storyline to Hollywood Set

Copeland was recently written off AEW television following his victory at All Out, where he teamed with longtime ally Christian Cage to defeat FTR. The moment also marked the shocking AEW debut of his wife, Beth Copeland (formerly WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix), who suffered a devastating spike piledriver from FTR after the bell.

In the aftermath, Copeland told Christian and fans alike that he was stepping away from the ring for the time being to focus on family. Now, it’s clear that part of his hiatus includes a major opportunity in Hollywood.

What We Know About The Beekeeper 2

Details about Copeland’s role are being kept tightly under wraps, but the film is already in production with Timo Tjahjanto (Nobody 2, The Shadow Strays) directing and Kurt Wimmer—the writer of the original film—returning to script the sequel.

The first Beekeeper was a breakout box office success in 2024, grossing heavily worldwide and positioning Statham for yet another franchise. Adding Copeland to the cast only ups the intrigue as fans wait to see how his hard-hitting presence translates to the big screen.

Copeland’s Acting Journey

This isn’t Copeland’s first time in front of the cameras outside of wrestling. His film and television credits date back to 2000’s Highlander: Endgame, and he’s appeared in projects ranging from Haven to Vikings. With the buzz surrounding The Beekeeper 2, this could easily become his most high-profile role to date.

Professional wrestlers stepping into Hollywood is nothing new. Legends like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Dave Bautista, and John Cena have become household names far beyond the ring, while today’s generation—including MJF, Becky Lynch, Liv Morgan, and Drew McIntyre—are also making their mark in entertainment. Copeland’s latest role puts him right alongside that growing list of wrestling stars carving out a second career in film.

Adam Copeland’s AEW hiatus now feels less like time off and more like a strategic career move. With his wife making a dramatic AEW debut and his Hollywood stock rising, Copeland is in a unique position to balance wrestling legend status with legitimate acting chops. If The Beekeeper 2 delivers at the box office like its predecessor, don’t be surprised to see Copeland booked for even more big-screen projects. For AEW fans, this also raises the question: when he returns, will it be as a conquering hero… or as a crossover star who brings mainstream attention back with him?
