Booker T Responds to Fan Backlash Over Misheard Remark on NXT Commentary

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has found himself at the center of an unusual debate following last week’s episode of WWE NXT. A simple comment on commentary sparked a wave of social media chatter, with some fans convinced he said something inappropriate—while others clearly heard otherwise.
The Misheard Moment
During a segment featuring Stephanie Vaquer, Tiffany Stratton, and Rhea Ripley, Booker T casually remarked, “I gotta pop my neck, man.” But once the clip hit social media, some fans swore he had said something far different—and much more explicit. Despite the audio clearly indicating “neck,” the moment turned into yet another example of the internet running wild with misinterpretations.
Booker addressed the issue on his Hall of Fame podcast, saying:
“Pop it? No, I refrained. I didn’t want that to blow up on me again. People trying to make up stories and trying to cancel me. I really don’t know why people want to cancel me. I’m a man of great talent and living my best life.”

Booker T’s Value on Commentary
While fans online can be quick to criticize his commentary style, Booker’s résumé speaks volumes. Unlike many commentators, he’s been inside the ring, carried championships around the world, and lived through the high-octane days of WCW and The Monday Night Wars. That lived experience gives him a unique perspective—something few others at the desk can match. Whether you agree with his delivery or not, there’s no denying that his insights come from a place of firsthand knowledge.
A SmackDown Return
Booker also reflected on his surprise one-night appearance at the commentary desk during SmackDown in Norfolk, Virginia. For him, the night was filled with nostalgia.
“It was wonderful; it felt good. It was crazy when I pulled up at Norfolk. I pulled in, and memories just flooded back of all the times I had been in that Norfolk Scope back in WCW. It was amazing being part of SmackDown. One night only, one night only.”
He admitted he’s not looking to return full-time to the main roster booth but enjoyed the experience alongside Vic Joseph.
🎙️ Wrestling.news | Backstage Take
This controversy feels like a reach. Booker T clearly said “neck,” not the other word, but social media loves to run with misheard moments. The reality is Booker brings a wealth of knowledge to commentary that most can’t touch—he’s a six-time world champion, a WCW veteran, and a WWE Hall of Famer. He’s been there, done that, and earned the right to speak from experience. Fans may poke fun at his style, but the man adds authenticity and legitimacy every time he’s behind the mic. Maybe it’s time the audience appreciates that instead of nitpicking every soundbite.
