Fans Clap Back: Rob Van Dam's Fan Gauge Poll Backfires After Raja Jackson & Matt Riddle Comments

Rob Van Dam has found himself in the middle of fan backlash yet again. Earlier this week, we covered how the WWE Hall of Famer caused outrage when he declared he “had Raja Jackson’s back” following Jackson’s attack on Syko Stu. Now, the backlash has only grown louder after Van Dam doubled down with more eyebrow-raising comments.

Not only did RVD stand by Jackson, but he also voiced support for Matt Riddle — who recently no-showed a UK charity wrestling event, leaving fans and organizers frustrated. Riddle has been dealing with his own wave of criticism after controversial social media posts reportedly got him removed from a convention booking.

In the midst of all this, Van Dam took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday afternoon, posting a poll ahead of his evening podcast to gauge who’d be tuning in. The options were essentially a popularity test, but it seems the fans didn’t exactly give him the response he was hoping for.

Out of 488 total votes, a whopping majority responded with a “F*** you, RVD!” Just 28.9% of voters sided with RVD, saying they still had his back. Only six users bothered leaving a comment — one of which was an off-topic stock trading bot ad, adding insult to injury.

What RVD may have thought would be a cheeky engagement play instead turned into another public reminder of how many fans are turned off by his recent takes.

He addressed the backlash surrounding his recent comments, attempting to clear the air and offer his side of the story. Fans can watch the full video now on his YouTube channel, linked here.  Worth noting, for a Wrestling Legend and WWE Hall of Famer, his viewership has already been low — and while this video actually pulled more attention than his recent uploads, it was still heavily ratioed with 171 likes to 276 dislikes and just 42 comments.

🎙️ Wrestling.news | Backstage Take

Rob Van Dam is no stranger to controversy, but this feels different. When legends speak, fans usually listen — even when they disagree. But the sheer volume of backlash here suggests RVD has struck a nerve with today’s audience, especially after defending both Raja Jackson’s attack and Matt Riddle’s recent no-show. The poll might’ve been meant to drive podcast traffic, but it instead highlighted how much goodwill RVD has burned through with the fanbase in just a matter of days. No denying he had some great moments in his career in the ring, it is a shame he continues to have such questionable takes on important topics.
