Forbidden Door Update: Copeland & Cage Reunite for First Tag Victory in 14 Years

The London crowd at the O2 Arena witnessed something fans never thought they’d see again: Adam Copeland and Christian Cage standing shoulder to shoulder, back in the tag team trenches. Fourteen years removed from their last partnership, the legendary duo kicked off AEW and NJPW’s Forbidden Door with a reunion that delivered both nostalgia and attitude.

Copeland entered to a thunderous “Metalingus” singalong, with the British fans belting out Alter Bridge’s anthem louder than ever. Cage followed, leaning fully into his self-proclaimed role as the ultimate “arsehole,” milking the moment and refusing to give the fans exactly what they wanted—at least right away.

Inside the ropes, the drama played out quickly. Christian avoided locking up with Killswitch (the former Luchasaurus, back from a serious health battle) and even short-armed his partner on tag attempts, forcing Copeland to absorb the punishment in true babyface fashion. Still, the fans couldn’t help but love every second of Cage’s antics, booing and cheering him in equal measure.

Meanwhile, Kip Sabian looked to impress his home country, but the Patriarchy’s implosion took center stage. Miscommunication led to Sabian being busted open, and once Christian decided to actually engage, the momentum swung decisively. The reunion ended the way fans had hoped—with Copeland and Cage scoring a decisive pay-per-view win, a statement that the E&C comeback tour is officially underway.

After the match, Cage begrudgingly accepted a handshake from his longtime friend but stopped short of embracing him. The crowd serenaded him anyway, echoing chants usually reserved for WWE’s most lovable stars. For now, a hug will have to wait—maybe until AEW’s All Out in Toronto.

🗣️ Wrestling.news | Backstage Take

This match wasn’t just about a reunion; it was about reminding fans that Copeland and Cage remain masters of storytelling. Christian’s ability to walk the line between fan-favorite and outright villain is unmatched, and Copeland’s fire hasn’t dimmed in the slightest. Their chemistry picked up like no time had passed. If this is just the beginning of their comeback tour, AEW has struck gold heading into a stacked fall schedule.
