Former WWE Superstar D'Lo Brown Weighs In on Raja Jackson–Syko Stu: “A bad situation that should never happen”

Another veteran voice has entered the conversation around the Raja Jackson–“Syko Stu” Smith incident—and this one chose caution over hot takes.

Over the last 48 hours we’ve reported extensively on the timeline, video angles, and reaction to the near-fatal assault at KnokX Pro, including the widely panned responses from Rob Van Dam and Mark Henry that drew heavy backlash across the wrestling community. In contrast, D’Lo Brown told the Toronto Sun he’s still gathering facts, only knows what he has heard in the media and, from what he’s seen, the whole ordeal “looked like a bad situation from the jump”—one that “could’ve been avoided in several different ways.” Brown emphasized two things: wishing Stu a full recovery and stressing that non-workers (or anyone not fully trained/agented) should never be part of a physical angle. He also acknowledged he wasn’t there and hasn’t fully investigated the circumstances, avoiding speculation and finger-pointing while noting “a lot of people could’ve done things differently.”

As of today, Douglas Malo has shared a small but welcome update: Stu is alert and speaking again.

Behind the scenes, D’Lo’s restraint is being praised by many as the tone professionals should set while law enforcement and venue/promo stakeholders sort facts. After two high-profile responses (RVD, Mark Henry) that fans viewed as victim-blaming or prematurely definitive, Brown’s approach—center the injured worker, avoid conjecture, call for safer practices—lands better with locker rooms and promoters. Expect this to accelerate new guardrails at indie shows:

  • no untrained/non-rostered participants in ringside physicality,
  • tighter alcohol policies backstage and on the floor,
  • clearer agenting for run-ins/“receipt” spots,
  • and stronger cooperation with authorities when incidents occur.

Bottom line: safety first, facts second, takes last.
