Kenny Omega’s Final Countdown: Star Reveals Grim Struggles

As AEW gears up for one of its biggest events of the year, All In: Texas, fan-favorite and wrestling legend Kenny Omega has shared a deeply personal and emotional update that casts a shadow over his upcoming match — and possibly, his career.
Set to face Kazuchika Okada in a high-stakes title unification bout on July 12 at Globe Life Field, Omega won’t be walking into the ring at 100%. In fact, during a recent appearance on Wrestling Observer Radio, he revealed that his days in the ring may be numbered.
“I Don’t Have Much Left” - Omega stated.
💬 “I Don’t Want to Push Myself to the Breaking Point Again”
Omega opened up about the lingering effects of his diverticulitis diagnosis from 2023, describing in vivid detail the ongoing toll it has taken on his body and mind. Despite pushing through physically demanding matches like Anarchy in the Arena, he admitted that the strain of big wrestling weekends — from the match itself to meet-and-greets and behind-the-scenes planning — leaves him bedridden for nearly a week.
“I might be in bed until five or six [PM] for five, six, seven days. I just don’t have the energy. I can’t move,” Omega confessed. “That was the most scary part... I want to be reliable, but I don’t want to end up needing emergency surgery again. I don’t want to go through that twice.”
🩺 Pain, Pressure, and Perspective
Beyond fatigue, Omega shared that he’s battling adhesions in his stomach that make heavy breathing painful and bring flu-like symptoms. Despite the challenges, he credited Tony Khan for being understanding and prioritizing his health.
With age and injuries catching up, Omega admitted that he’s now wrestling with a new mindset — fewer matches, but each one must matter.
“There isn’t much left,” he said candidly. “So I want to make sure what’s still on the bone is good tasting meat.”
⏳ Retirement on the Horizon?
Though Omega hasn’t announced an official retirement date, his words paint a sobering picture. Every match could be one of his last — and he knows it.
As All In: Texas approaches, fans may be witnessing more than a championship clash — it could be one of the final chapters in the storied career of The Best Bout Machine.
