Mercedes Moné Becomes Nine Belts Moné At RevPro + Responds to AEW Creative Control Rumors

AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Moné is setting the record straight. The “CEO” of women’s wrestling addressed the online speculation that she has creative control in AEW—an idea fueled by her dominant booking since debuting in March 2024.
Speaking with TV Insider, Moné shot down the chatter, clarifying that while her character embodies power and control, behind the scenes she plays by the same rules as everyone else.
Mercedes Moné on AEW Creative Process
Some fans have nicknamed her “Mercedes Hogan,” drawing comparisons to Hulk Hogan’s infamous WCW creative control clause. Moné made it clear that label doesn’t fit.
“I work with whoever Tony (Khan) wants me to work with. That’s why I’m The CEO,” Moné said. “That’s why I came here—because I watched the women and said, ‘This is the place for me. There’s so much passion and drive.’”
Her words line up with AEW President Tony Khan’s own stance. Khan has repeatedly emphasized that he holds final creative authority, though he welcomes collaborative conversations with top stars like Moné and Toni Storm.
Elevating AEW’s Women’s Division
Moné didn’t just deny the rumors—she took the opportunity to praise the AEW women’s division.
“We legit have the greatest women’s division in all of professional wrestling,” she said, listing names like Toni Storm, Athena, Kris Statlander, and Willow Nightingale. “We’re getting more time, more matches, and more in-depth storylines. It’s been such great growth.”
Her commitment to spotlighting the division reflects why she chose AEW after leaving WWE in 2022.
Nine Belts Moné
This weekend showcased just how busy Moné is as a global star. At RevPro Global Wars UK in London (Aug. 22), she defeated Emersyn Jayne in a title vs. title match, adding the Discovery Wrestling Scottish Women’s Championship to her already stacked collection. The win keeps her tally at an astonishing nine championships simultaneously.
Moné sealed the victory by forcing Jayne to tap out to the Banks Statement Maker, cementing herself as “Nine Belts Moné.”
Looking ahead, she’s scheduled to defend her AEW TBS Championship this Sunday, Aug. 24, at Forbidden Door in a high-stakes four-way match.

From WWE Walkout to AEW CEO
Moné’s career trajectory has been about betting on herself. Her dramatic WWE exit in May 2022—walking out alongside Naomi over creative frustrations—was a turning point. She thrived in Japan, capturing the IWGP Women’s Championship, before making her AEW debut to massive fanfare.
Since arriving, she’s remained undefeated as TBS Champion while collecting championships worldwide. On-screen, she calls the shots as “The CEO,” but she made it clear that in reality, she respects AEW’s structure and creative process.
🗣️ Wrestling.news | Backstage Take
Mercedes Moné is walking the line between perception and reality better than almost anyone in the business today. Fans see her dominant reigns and start whispering about “creative control,” but her comments show that AEW is still Tony Khan’s sandbox—she’s just playing the game better than most. The real story? Moné has transformed herself into a global belt collector and arguably the most valuable asset in women’s wrestling right now. Her nine-title collection isn’t just a gimmick—it’s proof that she’s building a legacy beyond AEW, WWE, or even Japan. Forbidden Door could be another defining chapter, but right now, she’s in the middle of the run of her career.
