Santos Escobar Reportedly Re-Signs With WWE After Late-Night Negotiations

After briefly becoming a free agent, Santos Escobar is reportedly staying with WWE.
According to a new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Escobar and WWE reached a new agreement just hours after his contract officially expired at midnight Tuesday. The deal, described as “significantly larger” than WWE’s previous offers, was finalized late in the day after management reconsidered Escobar’s concerns and made an upgraded proposal to keep him with the company.
“We are told that WWE management considered Escobar’s concerns and made a sizeably larger offer than any of their previous overtures. At that point, Escobar agreed to terms,” the report stated.
Escobar had been quietly moved to the WWE.com Alumni section earlier on Tuesday, sparking speculation that his time with the company had ended. However, by nightfall, negotiations reportedly accelerated, resulting in his decision to re-sign.
The 39-year-old star last competed at AAA x WWE Worlds Collide: Los Angeles in June, continuing his reputation as one of WWE’s most polished and versatile Latino talents. Escobar, a former leader of Legado Del Fantasma, has been featured across NXT, SmackDown, and several crossover events since debuting with WWE in 2019.

This one came down to the wire — and WWE wasn’t willing to lose him. Santos Escobar has long been viewed as a bridge between WWE’s Latin American and U.S. audiences, with the charisma, heritage, and in-ring precision to anchor mid-card or faction storylines.
By reportedly offering Escobar a “sizeably larger” deal, WWE signaled that he remains a valued asset heading into 2026 — especially as the company rebuilds its international presence and balances a leaner roster under TKO.
While not yet confirmed publicly by WWE, Escobar’s re-signing shows that the free agent market is heating up again — and that sometimes, patience (and leverage) pays off.
