Wrestlepalooza delivered a historic moment on Sept. 20, 2025, inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, as Stephanie Vaquer captured the Women’s World Championship, defeating the decorated IYO SKY in a thrilling clash that had fans on their feet from start to finish.

The title was declared vacant after Naomi stepped away due to pregnancy, leaving the door open for a new chapter in the division. Vaquer, who had already earned a title opportunity at WWE Evolution, was matched against the veteran SKY in what many fans saw as a “prove it” test on WWE’s first-ever premium live event airing live on ESPN.

What Happened in the Match

The two warriors opened with a tight lock-up, trading quick roll-ups as they tested one another’s reflexes. SKY’s athleticism shone early with a missile dropkick and a daring dive to the floor, but Vaquer answered with a punishing knee strike and a high-impact crossbody from the top rope to the outside.

Inside the ring, the momentum swung like a pendulum. SKY rattled her opponent with a Spanish Fly and her trademark Bullet Train knee, nearly securing the victory. But Vaquer refused to quit, hitting her Devil’s Kiss and SVB for near falls.

In the final moments, SKY attempted her Over The Moonsault to finish things, only for Vaquer to roll out of the way. The Chilean standout climbed the ropes one last time and connected with a breathtaking Spiral Moonsault, sealing the three-count and her first world championship in WWE.

Post-Match Respect

An emotional scene followed. SKY, ever the veteran, presented Vaquer with the championship belt herself, bowing in respect before exiting the ring. Vaquer celebrated in tears, embracing family members at ringside as “La Primera” officially arrived on the biggest stage.

This wasn’t just a title change, it was a coronation. WWE trusted Vaquer to carry its Women’s World Championship on the ESPN debut stage, and she proved more than worthy. SKY’s decision to raise her hand was symbolic: a passing of the torch from one of the best in the world to a star with limitless potential.

The division has long thrived on big personalities and even bigger moments, and Vaquer’s win gives WWE a fresh international face to headline the future. Expect her reign to be a defining storyline as Wrestlepalooza’s aftermath plays out.
