Storms Slam WWE's SummerSlam 2025 Set Plans — Will The Stage Be Ready in Time?

As WWE ramps up for its historic two-night SummerSlam 2025 event at MetLife Stadium, Mother Nature just tagged in — and she's not playing fair.
On Thursday, severe storms and flash flood warnings tore through the tri-state area, forcing construction crews to halt work on WWE’s elaborate multi-tiered SummerSlam stage. The company had been racing to complete the massive setup ahead of the August 2 and 3 shows in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
According to Fightful Select, operations came to a screeching halt around 2:15 p.m. ET when crews were told to evacuate the field at MetLife Stadium. Emergency shelters were set up for both staff and set materials to prevent weather-related damage.
New Jersey and parts of New York were already under a State of Emergency, with flights into the area delayed or canceled. Despite the setbacks, WWE officials remain confident that the full stage will be completed in time for Saturday’s kickoff.
Meanwhile, Friday’s WWE SmackDown in nearby Newark is still on as planned at the Prudential Center. That show will feature Giulia defending her Women’s U.S. Championship against Zelina Vega, setting the tone for a weekend full of blockbuster matches.
Night 1 of SummerSlam includes CM Punk vs. GUNTHER for the World Heavyweight Championship, while Night 2 will culminate with the long-anticipated showdown between Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena and challenger Cody Rhodes.

The weather may be unpredictable, but WWE’s production team is battle-tested. Delays like this are high-stakes, but not unusual. Expect a few sleepless nights and extra caffeine backstage—but come Saturday, that iconic SummerSlam stage will likely be ready to shine.
