The Undertaker Shuts the Door: Why "One More Match" Will Never Happen

WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker has finally silenced years of speculation: there is no amount of money, no fantasy booking, and no "stupid number" that could ever bring him back for one more match.
On the latest episode of his Six Feet Under podcast, “The Deadman” sat down with Bubba Ray Dudley, who asked the question wrestling fans have wondered since his 2020 Boneyard Match against AJ Styles: could there ever be a comeback? The answer was a resounding “No.”
“I’d have to get back in the ring to put the hat and coat on,” Undertaker explained. “And I can’t do that because it jeopardizes the legacy. As much as I have up here [points to head] and in here [points to heart], I know there’s not enough left in the tank to do that.”
Protecting the Legacy of the Phenom
The Undertaker, real name Mark Calaway, made it clear that his legendary career is exactly where it should be—finished. When he retired, he also laid to rest the “Phenom” persona with the iconic hat and coat. What remains is his American Badass side, a character he feels better represents him in public appearances.
“When I retired, I retired half of my character,” he said. “That whole side of the Undertaker is gone. I’ve held onto the American Badass because it’s relatable. But I won’t put the other part back on. That’s how I protect the legacy.”
For fans hoping for one last entrance, one final chokeslam, or one more tombstone—The Deadman has spoken. That door is closed forever.

This is the right call. The Undertaker’s legacy doesn’t need one more match—it’s already written in fire across three decades of WWE history. Coming back now would only risk undoing the mystique he worked so hard to create. While fans always crave that one last ride, the greatest way to honor The Phenom is to let his final bow at WrestleMania 36 stand untouched.
