Why WWE Re-Signing This Ex-Champion Has Fans and Insiders Scratching Their Heads

WWE's latest contract move has raised eyebrows, as former Raw Tag Team Champion Omos has quietly inked a new deal with the company—despite being off television for months and seemingly directionless.
The 7-foot-3 powerhouse wrapped up a noteworthy stint with Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan earlier this year, closing out his run in January 2025 with speculation swirling about a WWE comeback. But since a brief appearance in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal in April 2024, Omos has yet to return to WWE programming, once again disappearing from view.
Originally signed in 2019, Omos rose to prominence as AJ Styles’ imposing enforcer, with the duo eventually capturing the Raw Tag Team Titles in 2021. But over time, creative direction waned, and the big man gradually faded from regular storylines.
📉 So Why Extend His Deal?
That’s the question many are asking, including former WWE writer Vince Russo, who voiced his confusion during a recent episode of Writing With Russo:
"I don’t know why. Because that’s the thing — the longer someone’s been around without strong booking, the harder it becomes to get them over. Fans remember the missed opportunities, the poor storytelling… and that’s what sticks with them."
🧩 WWE’s Plan… or Just Roster Insurance?
While Omos himself confirmed he’s signed a new WWE contract, there’s been no official word on future plans. It leaves fans wondering whether this is a sign of big things to come, or simply a strategic move to retain talent with physical upside—just in case.
For now, the Nigerian Giant remains a mystery figure in WWE’s evolving roster. But unless creative can find a compelling direction, critics argue this contract extension may be more puzzling than promising.
