WWE Announces Money In The Bank 2026 Date and Location — The City That Almost Got WrestleMania 42

The Big Easy is officially back in the WWE spotlight.

WWE confirmed that the 2026 Money In The Bank Premium Live Event will take place Sunday, September 6, 2026, live from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. The announcement, made Wednesday morning, comes with a slight date shift — one week later than originally planned — making it the latest Money In The Bank event ever held on the WWE calendar.

It marks the first major WWE Premium Live Event in New Orleans since WrestleMania 34 and the company’s first show at the Smoothie King Center since NXT TakeOver: New Orleans in 2018. Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque had previously revealed that the city would host a major event, though the exact venue had remained under wraps until now.

New Orleans & WWE: A Legendary Connection

New Orleans has played host to some of WWE’s most unforgettable moments. The 2001 Royal Rumble at the same venue (then called the New Orleans Arena) saw “Stone Cold” Steve Austin secure his ticket to WrestleMania X-Seven — and his infamous heel turn against The Rock.

Of course, The Big Easy will forever be tied to WrestleMania XXX, where Daniel Bryan conquered Triple H, Batista, and Randy Orton in a single night to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion — and where The Undertaker’s legendary 21–0 streak was shattered by Brock Lesnar.

WWE returned for WrestleMania 34, headlined by Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar and featuring Ronda Rousey’s in-ring debut.

Interestingly, New Orleans was originally set to host WrestleMania 42, with The Rock making the announcement in grand fashion. However, plans shifted, and the event was moved to Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium instead — leaving many fans disappointed that NOLA didn’t get its third WrestleMania in a decade.

Now, Money In The Bank looks to make up for that.

The Stakes & The Spectacle

Traditionally held in early summer, Money In The Bank is known for its high-risk ladder matches and game-changing cash-ins. This past year’s event at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California saw Seth Rollins and Naomi claim the briefcases — and both successfully cash in to capture world titles.

The 2026 edition could serve as the final Premium Live Event before WrestleMania season kicks off, depending on how WWE’s fall schedule shapes up.

Per WWE’s official press release, fans can register for pre-sale access at WWE.com/MITB-2026. Priority passes, featuring Superstar meet-and-greets, VIP seating, and exclusive hospitality events, will be available via On Location.

Wrestling.news | Backstage Take

This is a smart redemption play by WWE. After New Orleans was quietly pulled from WrestleMania 42 hosting duties, giving the city a marquee event like Money In The Bank helps mend fences with local tourism officials and the loyal Louisiana fanbase.

That said, the September date is unusual — dangerously close to the start of NFL season and college football weekends, which could impact attendance and travel packages. Still, the Money In The Bank name carries enough weight to fill the Smoothie King Center. Expect a big-time card, and possibly a tease for early WrestleMania 43 storylines.
