WWE Backstage Update: AJ Styles Expected to Capture Gold — Dominik Mysterio Takes Shot at CM Punk and Confirms He is Injured Going into Night 2 SummerSlam

Following our earlier reporting, backstage sources now further, strongly indicate that AJ Styles is expected to defeat "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio in their highly anticipated title bout scheduled for Night 2 of WWE SummerSlam 2025.
This news comes on the heels of CM Punk’s emotional World Title win over Gunther on Night 1 — a moment that was quickly spoiled when Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract just minutes later to dethrone Punk and become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
Meanwhile, Dominik Mysterio has broken his silence regarding a real injury that had previously taken him out of action.
“I dislocated my two lower ribs. They were digging into my cartilage. That’s why I was hurt,” Dom revealed on the Club 520 podcast with Jeff Teague.
“Everyone thought I was faking it, but I was actually hurt.”
And when it comes to CM Punk, Dominik didn’t hold back.
In a recent sit-down with Shakiel Mahjouri of SHAK Wrestling, Dominik fired shots in response to Punk calling him a “f***ing nerd” in a prior interview.
“Nothing kills the business more than someone thinking they’re good enough to go fight in the UFC and get their ass beat not once but twice,” Dominik said.
“If you want to talk about ‘killing the business,’ just go watch CM Punk’s fights in the UFC. You tell me what kills the business more. Let me call my friend Mickey Gall real quick and see what he thinks.”
With Punk’s rise and fall on Night 1, and Dominik’s pointed words gaining traction, all eyes are now on AJ Styles vs. Dirty Dom as Night 2 of SummerSlam looms large.

🗣️ Wrestling.News | Backstage Take
The tides are shifting at SummerSlam, and AJ Styles may be riding the biggest wave yet. Backstage chatter points to “The Phenomenal One” walking out with championship gold on Night 2—just hours after chaos erupted with CM Punk's emotional win and loss in the same night. But perhaps the biggest wildcard isn’t the title picture—it’s Dominik Mysterio. Despite a real rib injury that could’ve sidelined him, Dirty Dom isn’t backing down. Instead, he’s throwing verbal punches at CM Punk that hit almost as hard as his in-ring work.
Dominik’s jab at Punk’s UFC stint may seem petty, but it adds a layer of heat heading into Night 2. Whether it's real bitterness or just a strategic mic drop, it’s clear Dom knows how to stay relevant—even when he's hurting. We will keep an eye on how WWE handles this one. If sources are correct (because as we know WWE can change anything last minute) and Mysterio drops the title and takes time off, his return could point in the direction of the main event and a feud with CM Punk, or Seth Rollins.
