It turns out WWE’s Aussie Icon Grayson Waller almost took his trademark arrogance out of the ring — and into a real-life showdown with NFL star Travis Kelce.

In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, the outspoken WWE SmackDown star revealed that he was mentally preparing to throw hands with Kelce after realizing he’d once made a not-so-flattering comment about Taylor Swift, the global megastar now engaged to the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.

“If Travis Kelce Is Happy Settling for a 6…”

The story traces back to a 2023 episode of WWE’s The Bump, where Waller — in classic heel fashion — made a dismissive jab at Swift’s looks and relationship with Kelce, quipping:

“If Travis Kelce is happy settling for a 6, good for him.”

At the time, it seemed like another cocky Waller moment — the kind fans love to boo. But once the clip made the rounds online, it wasn’t just the WWE Universe reacting. Some of Swift’s massive fanbase, the Swifties, came for Waller on social media.

Still, the Australian loudmouth brushed it off. That is, until fate decided to make things interesting.

The Night WWE Met the NFL (and Taylor Swift)

Fast-forward to Tight End University — the annual event hosted by Kelce, George Kittle, and Greg Olsen in Nashville. Waller, alongside Bayley and Sheamus, attended the party as WWE representatives. That’s when things got real.

“They did a party one night; me, Bayley, and Sheamus all went,” Waller recalled. “And then [Swift] and Travis Kelce were both there. In the back of my mind, I’m like, she doesn’t know who I am. But imagine they’re scrolling through their phones and see this idiot Australian said something rude. I was thinking, ‘Man, I’m going to have to fight Travis Kelce.’”

Waller joked that he was fully prepared for a brawl if things escalated. At 6’3” and 202 pounds, he’s no small man — but even he admitted that going toe-to-toe with the 6’5”, 250-pound All-Pro tight end might have been a mismatch.

“I’ve said multiple times I’ll fight Travis Kelce,” Waller laughed. “Then I saw how big tight ends are. I might still win… but it’s gonna be a scrap.”

No Bad Blood — Just Respect (and a Quick Taylor Encounter)

Fortunately for both men (and every PR team involved), the situation never turned hostile. Instead, Kelce reportedly greeted Waller with respect.

“He was super nice,” Waller said. “He didn’t have to come over and chat with us, but he did. Super chill. Chatted with us for a bit.”

As for Taylor? Their first “meeting” was brief but polite.

“She walked past me at some stage and I had to move and said, ‘Oh, sorry,’ and she said, ‘Thank you.’ So I think that’s the reconciliation.”

So while Waller didn’t end up in a barroom brawl with an NFL legend, he did learn firsthand that sometimes being the heel in real life doesn’t hit quite the same.

Wrestling.news | Backstage Take

Grayson Waller’s story is classic WWE-meets-Hollywood crossover chaos — and it highlights just how far wrestling’s mainstream footprint has grown.

But there’s another layer here: Waller has mastered the art of staying relevant. Whether it’s picking fights online, cutting viral promos, or telling wild stories like this one, he’s carving out a unique lane as one of WWE’s true crossover personalities.

Insiders say WWE loves that about him — even when he stirs trouble. And with Waller reportedly being considered for a featured match at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, his knack for mixing pop culture and controversy may just be his ticket to the next level.
