John Cena Speaks on SummerSlam Attack, Set for SmackDown This Friday — Will Brock Lesnar Show Up?

The clock on John Cena’s farewell tour is ticking — and after Brock Lesnar’s thunderous return at SummerSlam, the final chapter may have just exploded into chaos.
At the end of Night 2 of SummerSlam, fans witnessed an unforgettable moment: Cena, already emotional after his street fight alongside Cody Rhodes, stood tall—until “The Beast Incarnate” made his unannounced return and decimated the 17-time World Champion. It was Brock’s first appearance in over two years, and it left the WWE Universe stunned.
Now, John Cena has responded.
Speaking candidly in a quick sidewalk interview with Adam’s Apple, Cena gave a humble, almost poetic reflection on what might be the final arc of his career.
“I think SummerSlam was an indication from the audience where everybody kind of knows we're closing our book,” Cena said. “And just because I close my book in December, that doesn't mean the WWE closes its books. They deal 'em, I play 'em. I got a dozen of them left.” Cena added.
Whether Cena requested Lesnar or WWE threw him a surprise monster for his farewell, he’s not backing down. WWE has now confirmed that Cena will appear on SmackDown this Friday, August 8 — and the big question is: Will Brock Lesnar confront him?

Will “The Beast” answer?

Make no mistake about it, this is huge. Cena vs. Lesnar isn’t just a rivalry, it’s a legacy war going back a long time. Whether it’s respect, revenge, or real-life redemption, Lesnar’s return throws WWE’s final months of 2025 into absolute unpredictability. Cena might be playing the cards he’s dealt, but if Brock Lesnar is the final boss, expect fireworks — and maybe a career-ending F5.
Also worth noting: Triple H says Cena “asked for this,” while Cena’s tone says WWE picked the fight. The truth? Likely somewhere in between. But one thing's clear: if Brock shows up this Friday, SmackDown becomes must-see TV. We think WWE missed an opportunity by not taking advantage of the hype and having it all go down on Raw, but overall thinking of from a business aspect and not a fan aspect it makes sense: Rollins had Raw all to himself to announce "The Vision" faction alliance, take Roman Reigns out so he can film the Street Fighter Movie, and Cena/Brock will take over WWE SmackDown this Friday.
