Tony Khan Explains Why Bryan Danielson Is Staying Behind the Mic

AEW President Tony Khan pulled back the curtain this week on one of the company’s biggest broadcast moves: Bryan Danielson officially joining the AEW Dynamite commentary team on a full-time basis. Speaking on the Battleground podcast, Khan praised both The American Dragon’s analytical eye for the sport and the way his commentary elevated June’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view.
Danielson first stepped behind the desk for the landmark event in London, where stars from AEW, NJPW, CMLL, and other promotions collided. According to Khan, the reaction to Danielson’s insight was so strong that the decision to make him a regular voice on Wednesdays was a no-brainer.
“Bryan did a fantastic job at Forbidden Door,” Khan said. “He brings such intelligent, insightful commentary. He knows the stars from Japan, Mexico, everywhere — he does the research. People want to see and hear Bryan Danielson on television, and this gives fans a whole new way to connect with him.”
Khan revealed that after Danielson wrapped up his promotional tour in Australia, the timing lined up perfectly to solidify his role as a weekly commentator. Starting immediately, the former multi-time world champion will not only lend his voice but also his deep knowledge of international wrestling to AEW’s flagship show.
Harley Cameron Earns High Praise
The podcast also saw Khan shine a spotlight on Harley Cameron, a talent he says is proving to be one of AEW’s most versatile performers.
“She’s gotten very, very good in the ring,” Khan said. “But Harley has so many talents outside the ring, too. She can do almost anything, and she’s one of the most respected people in the locker room.”
Khan emphasized Cameron’s growing in-ring ability and her value as both a performer and a representative of AEW beyond the ropes.

Bryan Danielson’s transition to commentary isn’t just a new chapter — it’s AEW leaning into one of its most respected minds. Danielson brings credibility to the booth, bridging the gap between hardcore fans who appreciate technical depth and casual viewers who know him as one of the best wrestlers of his generation. With the international partnerships AEW thrives on, his global knowledge is an ace in the hole.
As for Harley Cameron, Khan’s words make it clear AEW sees her as more than just another talent. She’s part of the company’s next wave, someone who can connect with fans in multiple ways. It feels like AEW is doubling down on both established star power and emerging versatility — a balance that could pay big dividends heading into the fall schedule.
