AEW is stepping into the comic book universe — and Tony Khan has revealed who he thinks would be AEW’s very own Batman.

During a guest appearance on Dirt Sheet Radio, the AEW President was asked to imagine which of his wrestlers best fits the Dark Knight role. Without hesitation, Khan pointed to Jon Moxley, calling him the “blue-collar Batman” of All Elite Wrestling.

“Jon Moxley, Batman,” Khan said. “The blue-collar hero, very different than Bruce Wayne, the white-collar hero — but both of them work incredibly hard. Sometimes their methods get questioned, but they’re both consistent and the top of their professions. Moxley’s that guy — the all-around hero who always fights through.”

AEW Meets DC Comics at New York Comic Con

Khan’s comments come as AEW officially announced a two-issue crossover comic series with DC Comics titled “The Justice League Meets AEW.”
The collaboration will give fans an unprecedented mash-up between pro wrestling and superheroes, bringing together AEW’s biggest names with DC’s most legendary icons.

The first preview edition drops at New York Comic Con (October 9–12), where fans will get their initial look at the unique storyline that fuses the AEW locker room with the Justice League universe.

It’s the latest example of AEW’s push beyond the ring — blending mainstream entertainment with its own brand of wrestling grit and creativity.

Tony Khan on How AEW Was Born

Speaking separately on The Going Ringside Podcast, Khan reflected on AEW’s creation back in 2018 and how an impromptu conversation at a Los Angeles cocktail party helped launch what would become WWE’s first true competitor in decades.

“When I launched it, I was in LA. I saw the president of TBS and TNT and said, ‘With the way wrestling TV rights are going, I think it makes sense to start a wrestling league — and put it on your networks.’”

At the time, TNT and TBS hadn’t aired wrestling since 2001. Khan’s pitch reignited that history, and after a year of meetings, he began signing talent before even securing a TV deal — a move that would pay off when AEW officially launched in January 2019.

“It was a gamble,” Khan admitted. “I started signing wrestlers before I had the TV deal, because I knew it was coming. There was a market for what AEW was going to be.”

🗣️ Wrestling.news | Backstage Take

Tony Khan calling Jon Moxley AEW’s “Batman” feels spot-on. Like Gotham’s vigilante, Moxley thrives in chaos, fights for justice his own way, and doesn’t need the spotlight to prove his worth.

Pairing that with AEW’s crossover into DC Comics is smart branding — merging AEW’s gritty realism with superhero spectacle right as the company eyes broader mainstream exposure.

If Moxley’s the Batman, it’s safe to say AEW’s creative universe just added its very own Justice League.
