“The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar is officially back in WWE—and by all signs, he’s not going anywhere anytime soon. After nearly two years away from the ring, Lesnar stormed back into the spotlight this summer, and now all roads may be leading him toward a blockbuster showdown at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.

Lesnar’s Return & Future in WWE

Lesnar shocked the wrestling world when he resurfaced at SummerSlam 2025, attacking John Cena immediately after Cena’s emotional Undisputed WWE Championship loss to Cody Rhodes. That moment set the stage for their collision at Wrestlepalooza, where Lesnar bulldozed Cena in under nine minutes with a barrage of F-5s—six during the match and one more after the bell just to punctuate the point.

The bout wasn’t Cena’s farewell, but rather one step closer to his highly anticipated final match, set for WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, 2025. That show will be headlined by Cena’s official last stand, but Wrestlepalooza proved he’s still willing to go toe-to-toe with the most dangerous opponents before the curtain closes.

At the same time, the match confirmed something else: Lesnar isn’t back for a nostalgia run. WWE’s marketing for WrestleMania 42 has already placed him front and center, alongside the likes of Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Rhea Ripley, Jade Cargill, and Becky Lynch. The Beast’s prominent placement signals he’s firmly locked into creative plans heading into 2026.

The Lawsuit Hiatus

Lesnar’s return wasn’t guaranteed. His name surfaced repeatedly in the Janel Grant lawsuit against WWE and Vince McMahon back in early 2024, though Lesnar himself was never named as a defendant. Out of caution, WWE pulled him from television for more than two years. His last WrestleMania appearance came at WrestleMania 39, when he defeated Omos in Los Angeles.

Now, with WWE under the TKO umbrella alongside UFC, Lesnar once again finds himself as one of the company’s most valuable crossover stars—especially with Las Vegas becoming the new home for back-to-back WrestleManias.

Who Will Brock Lesnar Face at WrestleMania 42?

Speculation about Lesnar’s Mania opponent is already heating up. According to BodySlam.net, internal discussions have centered around a first-time showdown between Brock Lesnar and Bron Breakker.

WWE management reportedly views Breakker as a future WrestleMania main eventer, and pitting him against Lesnar would be a massive passing-of-the-torch moment. Adding fuel to the fire, Breakker is currently aligned with Paul Heyman’s Vision stable, and Heyman surprisingly reunited with Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza, reintroducing him before his match with Cena.

If WWE leans into that connection, Heyman could find himself torn between his protégé Breakker and his longtime Beast at WrestleMania 42—a storyline rich with intrigue and real stakes.

🗣️ Wrestling.news | Backstage Take

Brock Lesnar doesn’t come back for just anything. His name, his presence, and his payday are all too big to waste. WWE placing him prominently in WrestleMania 42 advertising means we’re heading toward something marquee. A clash with Bron Breakker makes all the sense in the world—youth vs. experience, rising star vs. established box-office draw, with Paul Heyman as the connective tissue.

It’s also telling that WWE is willing to weather the PR storm around Lesnar to keep him in the spotlight. That signals just how valuable they still view him, especially heading into their biggest show of the year in a city that thrives on spectacle. Whether Breakker gets the nod or another top name steps up, WrestleMania 42 could be Lesnar’s most impactful match in years.
